Although Ireland is a fairly small country, visitors will find that hiring a car for the duration of their stay will open up options that otherwise would be unavailable if they were relying solely upon public transport to get around. Island is often termed “The Emerald Isle” and for a very good reason, the local geography of Ireland is incredibly scenic, from Galway over in the west which displays a landscape akin to the Scottish Highlands, to the Wexford coastline displaying a Welsh form of rock formations, a road trip around Ireland is like a whistle stop tour of the geography of the United Kingdom.
Of course, when you are not out enjoying the countryside you can partake of the globally renowned nightlife to be found in Dublin, along with some of the best shopping and dining to be found in Northern Europe. Although quite small, Ireland is served by five international airports; Ireland West Airport, Shannon Airport, Cork Airport and Dublin Airport. Dublin Airport is the busiest of the bunch, but all of them house local outlets for all of the major international and European hire firms which include Europacar, Budget, Avis, Hertz and Sixt. Ireland is still a land of country roads and narrow lanes in many places, especially in the rural areas, and don’t forget that like the UK, motorists drive upon the left hand side of the road in Ireland, this can be something of a challenge to visitors who are used to driving upon the right hand side of the road. |
